Commercial Disputes
Our commercial dispute resolution practice focuses on achieving pragmatic solutions to complex commercial disputes for a broad range of UK and international clients.
Commercial disputes come in all shapes and sizes and our team regularly advises on disputes involving high value contracts in the IT, engineering and construction sectors (often where there are complex technical issues in play); agency disputes; shareholder disputes; infringement of intellectual property; warranty claims; professional negligence issues; public law matters; competition abuse claims and insurance recovery disputes. We act for a wide range of clients including leading UK and international companies in the manufacturing, technology, engineering, transport, pharmaceuticals, IT and new media sectors. The international nature of our clientele means that we regularly assist clients in resolving cross-border disputes.
Because of our pragmatic and commercial approach to dispute resolution, we regard litigation as just one means of achieving the best outcome for our clients. Sometimes formal court proceedings are essential to achieve our clients’ goals and if they are, our depth of experience means that we can advise clients on the most appropriate action. But often disputes can be resolved by alternative procedures and our team is also able to offer clients particular expertise in international arbitration and mediation.
Although Hill Hofstetter has only been operating since January 2009, the commercial disputes team has already gained recognition in the 2010 legal directory Chambers & Partners UK, which says:
“This new firm was formed by Reed Smith’s former Birmingham team and starts out with an impressive client base and an excellent group of high-quality litigators at its core. The firm has made significant headway since its inception … Peers are keen to see how the firm progresses and expect to quickly realise its huge potential.”
