The Employment Team has extensive experience of acting for international clients.
Examples of such work include:-
US
- Advising a major IT client on how to introduce new terms and conditions of employment including bonus and commission schemes in the UK and a number of other European jurisdictions. This also involved project managing advice from the non-UK jurisdictions.
- Assisting a US company to acquire a UK business and then advising on a reorganisation of the business involving redundancies, changes to terms of employment and exiting senior directors.
- Working with a major US pharmaceutical company in defending an equal pay claim brought by a senior employee based in the UK, which resulted in mediation in the US.
- Advising a major US mail order catalogue company on changes of UK contractors and the drafting of service agreements for senior UK employees.
- Advising a major US company on the closure of one of its UK subsidiaries which involved taking instructions from both operational managers and in-house lawyers in the US.
Europe
- Representing a French company in disciplining and dismissing their in-house accountant following allegations of fraud and thereafter assisting in closing the UK entity.
- Acting for a UK educational company to assist it in introducing standard terms and conditions in various operations throughout Europe.
- Advising a European company with regard to changing its salary and expenses policy in various European jurisdictions.
- Acting for a French company on a redundancy programme in the UK.
- Acting for a UK company operating in Italy in relation to a consultancy agreement for an Italian worker, where the jurisdiction of the contract is the UK.
- Advising a German parent company of a UK subsidiary on trade union recognition and liaising with the European HR team.
- Acting for a UK company in relation to a consultancy agreement for a consultant being taken on in Germany.
Asia
- Acting for a major financial sector company regarding the ability to rehire employees previously made redundant in jurisdictions throughout the world but mainly Asia.
- Advising a European company on the termination of a senior executive employed by the UK but seconded to Japan.
- Advising the UK subsidiary of a worldwide fashion accessories retailer on the transfer of one of its functions from the UK to China.
Middle East & Africa
- Advising a UK parent company in relation the closure of its office in Kenya and reassigning the employee who had been seconded from the UK to the Kenyan office.
- Advising an education and career services company on the implementation of a new service agreement for its senior manager in the UAE.
- Drafting a compromise agreement for a senior executive employed by a UK company but based in the UAE.
